Summer has arrived in London!

This past week has been scorching hot and I have spent many a day in the park. It was also a good excuse to buy some bright summer clothes.

I also have some exciting news – I have a NEW JOB! I start on Monday… excited slash nervous. I will now be working in social media, which I am delighted about. I am looking forward to finishing my first day as have the jitters already! I was in my last job over here for just over a year and was all cosy and settled plus I loved the people I worked with – but it wasn’t the career I wanted. Recruitment was good for the short term but not for me! At least I made some wonderful friends out of it and it helped make my first year in London so wonderful.

As a hurrah to summer I have had ice-cream for breakfast everyday this week.

links of london

Up until a few weeks ago I had never really paid attention to Links of London.

I figured Links were just like Pandora or Thomas Sabo – whose charm bracelets were given as obligatory 21st birthday presents amongst all my friends. Exciting a few years ago, but not really of interest to me now that I already have a charm bracelet.

It was only the other week that I actually set foot in Links of London’s store in Westfield when my friend had to drop in a bracelet to be restrung. The shop was amazing! Besides the cool decor (beautiful furniture and lighting) the jewelry was so different to what I imagined.

Amongst other designs Links have a Team GB collection to commemorate the Olympic Games in London this summer, and a collection of pieces inspired but the Little Miss and Mr. Men collection.

They did have the usual charm bracelets and accessories as well, but the most beautiful pieces were their friendship bracelets. Of course better made than the ones I tried to string together when I was 10!

The bracelets were beautiful and BRIGHT, BRIGHT, BRIGHT – exactly my sort of wrist candy.

I also have a penchant for skull jewelry so this is now my new favourite thing:

If you know what the above title means then you are probably from Ireland.

Blaas are amazing local baps/rolls from Waterford and Tayto are fantastic (albeit smelly!) Irish crisps… Mmm!

I am now fully back in London and back to blogging land – hurrah!

A view into my wardrobe

A sneak peak into my wardrobe -pinks, prints, studs and neons.

I can’t believe it is April already. How did that happen?! Although it is hard to tell what month we have, from sunbathing last week and going bare legged to freezing, wearing massive jackets and carrying brollies!

I am flying home to Ireland tomorrow for a little visit. Haven’t been home since Christmas so serious catch up time and seeing my (fat!) dogs! It is now Thursday night and I have yet to pack… oops!

London has been having some great weather lately!

I took last Friday off and ventured to Regents Park for a picnic… met a little dog friend too!

It was a lovely day of drinking rosé in the sun.

open journalism and the three little pigs

I think the Guardian have done a fantastic job with their advert for open journalism which first screened last month.

The epic ad shows how the story of the three little pigs would go down in the age of open journalism and shows how the story spreads over social media.

The ad questions whether the pigs really were the victims. It demonstrates the speed at which debate kicks off after news spread that the wolf is dead. Twitter is alive with tweets of support from some and outrage from others, comments are posted in response to online articles and news is reported on TV, print and online – while all the time sparking the online conversation on social media platforms.

Open journalism, allows us to shape how the news is reported by interaction, we are no longer merely consumers of news but are now actively participating. We can comment straight away to voice our opinions on online articles which gives us an immediate result, leading to instant conversations – unlike posting a letter in the mail to a print publication which may be irrelevant, old news by the time it gets published.

zara trf: my new jacket

I wandered into Zara after work on Friday – wow they have some great things in at the moment!

I love their TRF range for it’s bright colours and summer vibe.

I spied a bright yellow jacket hanging up and upon seeing that there was only one XS size left proceeded to stroll around the shop trying it on in front of several mirrors. I am a bad solo shopper! Without someone to advise me that it was worth the £59.99 price tag (it was!) I felt clueless! In the end I decided to get it – partly because I was late to meet my friend for dinner and had to drag myself out of Zara.

I took it out for its first trip yesterday for Saint Patrick’s Day – at least my friends won’t lose me in it! So bright!

snap, crackle and pop

Now that I have a new lovely home with an equally lovely kitchen I can cook again! Hurrah.

They may not be the hardest things to make, but I love Rice Krispie buns! Hardly any wash-up plus takes less than 20 minutes to make them.

To jazz them up I have started to add coloured sprinkles and popping candy (that amazing sugary stuff that literally pops/crackles in your mouth!) that I bought in Waitrose.

I have decided to cut back on the amount of clothes I have over here – do I really need two faux fur jackets as summer approaches? Eh, NO.

After moving house this weekend it became apparent that I brought too much clothes over from home!

When I originally was packing for London I really didn’t know what the style was over here in terms of nights out or work so I packed a heap of dressy going out dresses/skirts/tops… when in fact, more often than not I go out after work in daytime-y clothes (day to night with a splash of red lippy) or if a Saturday dressy-casual. And I NEVER wear heels. Well, once in a blue moon I do if it is a particularly special night out or we go to a dressier club. This came as a big surprise from Dublin where I always wore heels, proper going out dresses and sparkly everything – more because if I didn’t I felt like a lump next to everyone else in their six inch heels and faux lashes! Most places that I go to in London are much more relaxed and low key – a nice change I must say – as there is no better feeling than wearing shoes that don’t hurt!

Here is a recent Friday night outfit – I went from work to the pub, so just took a scarf I had tied around my bag and put it in my hair just to look a bit different from the office!
