winter wonderland

4 Dec

I had a very festive weekend… consisting of lots of mulled wine consumption.

I went to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park on Saturday – ’twas jammers to say the least, kids and buggies everywhere – I got squashed several times… but fun nonetheless!

Had it not been so mental busy I am sure I would have come home with some purchases as they had great stalls of furry hats, wooden ties (!) and decorations… instead I perched myself firmly on a lovely bench and had warm mulled wine with Louise from Not Very Wise.

Hat – River Island

Shorts – A/Wear

Jacket – Asos

Tee - MoreTVicar which I recently discover!

They have some great bits from LA based New Breed Girl – cool cutesy Cali-lifestyle boutique brand.

I went for this Party till he looks cute design… should take it on as my new motto for life.

I’m feeling very festive all of a sudden!

Could it be the fact that Christmas is only 20 days away?! Or  because of all the snow we’ve had? Or the lovely lights on around Dublin? Well yes to all of those!

I wandered around town for a little bit yesterday before I got my hair done – as my readers will know the last time I got my hair cut the hairdresser botched it up and it was completely uneven – and it was just so lovely and festive around the place!

I absolutely love Style Club. Stacey in there  showed me that the left side of my hair was in fact three inches longer than the right! So I got just under four inches chopped off yesterday to even it up *eek* ! Quite a lot when you’re trying to grow your hair as long as it will grow! I blame disney – particularly the little Mermaid for my love of long hair!

Luckily it still looks the same length – bahahhaaha, Kellebelle: 1, Hair: 0 – it’s just cut properly now! Also got my roots dyed darker (I like the grungey look a la Rachel Bilson!) and a half head of blonde balayage done by Lucy – absolutely love it! If anyone is looking for good hair stylists in Dublin I’d definitely point them towards Style Club’s  Stacey for cuts and Lucy for colour!

Anyhoo! I’ve been flicking through the December issues of some magazines and love the pages dedicated to Christmas Wishlists (Stellar and Marie Claire have great ones!) so decided I’d do my own!

Santa if you’re reading this blog I have been very good this year – I even got up early today (on a Sunday!) to tidy my bedroom!

As you can see I am a fan of books and toys for Christmas! I am a child at heart! I love board games tho’ – the Game of Life and Monopoly are my absolute faves! When I was little I used to get a different boardgame every Christmas… including some dodgy boring ones like Discover Ireland!

I was in Brown Thomas the other day – oh wow – their Christmas section and Marvel Room are stunning. They have the BEST collection of books ever. I spent most of my time looking at the childrens books – I just love the illustrations! They had an ah.may.zing Alive in Wonderland book collection – I want it!

Piggy Sniffles

The Spanish Exposition is one of my favourite blogs right now!

Below is a blog entry that I think is one of the most romantically adorable stories ever… (I guess this Christmas season is bringing out the romantic in me – who’d have thought!)

This Little Piggy

My brother had swine ‘flu some weeks back and I joked about calling down to Kildare to lick his cutlery. I fancied a few weeks off work. I had romantic notions of staying at home with Andrew, snug on the couch with the Gilmore Girls and a touch of the sniffles. Then I remembered the ‘flu I caught last February, the subsequent chest and sinus infection, the antibiotics, and the subsequent yeast infection. The Gilmores are a lot less fun with fever and a dose of galloping gee-rot. So I asked my brother if there was anything I could do for him, knowing he’d say no, and then left him to rot. Or recover. Whatever. He’s fine.

I wish I’d sent a fruit basket.

On Wednesday morning I tipped along to see nurse Margaret for my biannual blood tests. “Dr. Murphy!” she hollered. Not to greet me, but to alert her backup. She sighed at me, and smiled with the kind of patience I reserve for when I catch small children chewing crayons. I’m her most difficult patient. I know this because she has told me so, numerous times. I’m calm and compliant, but I have deep veins. I think Margaret thinks I’ve done this on purpose. Once Dr. Murphy had done Margaret’s dirty work and drawn enough blood, I tried to placate her with smalltalk about H1N1, except that I called it something else and further fuelled her suspicions that I was trying to show her up as a Bad Nurse. I asked about the vaccine and she told me that I couldn’t have it. “After Christmas” she said, in a placatory tone. She’d have patted me on the back but she doesn’t like to touch me. Happy to have avoided further mutilation, I made a joke about laying off the swines this side of Stephen’s Day. Hardy har har.

By 5pm I was burning up with a fever. I’m not saying I blame her, like. I’m just saying.

I arrived home in tears and Andrew put me to bed. He calmed me down, warmed me up, undressed me and stuffed me into some flannel pyjamas. I spent the night crying and shivering. I spent Thursday and Friday night crying and shivering too. He spent them mopping my brow, holding my hand, making me meals I pretended to eat. The fever broke on Saturday, and I celebrated with a new pair of pyjamas and a hacking cough. He blowdried and ironed my hair. On Sunday, he took me to Farmleigh and we had a cup of tea. I went back to bed again when we got home. I stayed there on Monday. He snuggled in beside me, my Nurse Ratched, visibly relieved to see me on the mend.

And he asked me to marry him.

No Recession For Barbie

5 Dec

This is way better than any Barbie I had as a kid.

Christian Louboutin has teamed up with Barbie to create a limited edition ‘Cat Burglar’ doll. She’s already sold out on Net-A-Porter! ($150)  The Barbie comes with a collection of four red-soled Louboutins, each with their own shoe box and bag.

So basically this doll has nicer shoes than me.

I don’t know about you but I’d love one of those dolls for Christmas!
