i’m a wonder woman – pow pow

21 Feb

Wonder Woman is fronting MAC’s new collection.

Due to hit stores from March (as in next week!) Huzzah!

I am a little bit in love with the design and packaging.

Always a sucker for anything pop-arty and bright.

I love the blue brushes too! Have to say I absolutely love how MAC market their products.

I already want all of the above (although my bank balance may disagree)…

I just want to have a red lippy with Wonder Woman written on the outside – beats the usual black package.

Plus it will obviously mean I am a fully fledge super hero. FACT.

Also love the felt eye liner thingy – looks a bit like a magic marker!

t minus four days

28 Aug

So the ol’ tattoo item is booked, deposit paid, designed picked!

Getting it done next Wednesday at 3pm. They’ve booked me in for a two hour slot - eep(!) seems long! My other two tattoos probably only took about 20/30 mins each.

I’ve been thinking about getting a new tattoo for aaaages but couldn’t decide what I wanted or where I wanted it. But finally (at last!) I have picked out my design (a pink lily) and decided where to get it (my leg…well thigh area to be specific). Unlike my other tats I’ve decided to go a bit bigger with this one – kinda like the size of a rose head (I am really bad at explaining sizes… but it’s not gonna be a little one this time!).

I don’t have the design uploaded yet but I will post the pics when I get it done! In the meantime here are some fab designs I found while trying to find what I wanted…

Also sorry for the serious lack of blog posts lately – silly work has me wrecked at the min! Will be back to regular posting asap :)

style icon:whitney port

9 Aug

I am a little bit in love with Whitney Port at the minute.

I remember when I was thirteen or fourteen I got a Bobbi Brown make-up book (to this day it’s my favourite make-up brand) that said every one should have a style icon they can relate to in some sense.  I think it came up in the context of Bobbi never having anyone she could really relate to growing up – she was surrounded by pictures of blonde, pale skined, blue-eyed models while she had strong features, brown eyes, dark hair and dark, tanned skin.

Anyhoo it’s a really good point if you think about it.

It’s nice to pick a style icon that you can relate to in some ways, of course I don’t mean find someone who’s a carbon copy of you – that could be hard (or impossible for non-professional lookalikes!) but even try find someone like you in terms of style, weight, face shape etc.

I love Katy Perry but I look nothing (and I mean nothing!) like her. She has amazing curves (I have none), pale skin (I’m sallow to the point of yellow!). I think she is so fab tho’ that I decided a while back I would dye my hair like her… disaster. I looked washed out and dead, and thank God I didn’t go for the fringe too.

I felt kinda bad after it tho’ – how come she looked so nice with dark hair and I looked completely shit??

Bobbi’s point was that if we can find a beauty/style icon we can relate to it can make us feel better about ourselves – we’re not comparing ourselves to something completely unobtainable, i.e. if you’re a pale skin, red-haired Irish girl someone like the fabulous Karen Gillen.

Whitney has a long face shape more like mine, brown eyes, middle parting/long hair (same ish colour and style), similar colourings in terms of skin tone etc. When I went to the hairdressers to get a Whitney-esque colour it came out nice and I didn’t look dead a la Katy Perry. Phew. We’re about the same ish build – she’s obvo waaaay taller.

(On a side note – why is it that it seems quite hard to say ‘I’m not fat’ or  ‘I’m slim’… Is it just me? Maybe it’s an Irish thing but I hate saying anything about my size. It almost seems if anyone says ‘oh you’re so skinny’ the proper answer is ‘go awaaay out of that I am not, look how big my *insert random body part* is).

Now obviously I don’t look like Whitney (*dreams*) but I think it is quite nice to have a style icon who you can at least feel like you can try emulate in some shape or form. We all have our own style and quirks but it’s nice to look to others for  inspiration. I personally love Whitney’s laid back style – I am a big blazer fan, esp. boyfriend blazers which Whitney wears a lot. She actually has a fab one HERE from her own line… tho’ a bit on the pricey side!

Of course it’s great to have a variety of style icons but it is nice to have at least one whose photos don’t make you feel crappy about yourself (ahem Katy Perry and her fab curves!)

What do you guys think?

you want a temporary tattoo, don’t you?

15 Jul

At the ripe old age of 17 I was bitten by the tattoo bug. I had planned to get my tongue pierced (mank – thank God I didn’t) but chickened out and came to the conclusion that a tattoo would be the lesser of two evils in terms of pain.

I spent weeks planning my butterfly design, back in the days when I was actually somewhat artistic. So off I went and got my first tattoo on my back (before they were refered to as ‘tramp stamps’, cheers for that!).

Two years later I decided to get another one. This time a treble clef on my wrist. Neither tattoo particularly hurt and so year after year I have had to force myself not to get my arms  and torso covered in beautiful designs! Would anyone employ me if I was tattooed a la Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie, Fearn Cotton? After all most offices frown upon tattoos on show – unless of course you are one of those deadly girls who work in fashion or make-up, like the girls who I saw in Betsy Johnson in San Fran! The girls in the store had beautiful tattoos all up their arms and across their chest – they didn’t look ‘rough’ (a term many people use to describe tattoo clad folk – well if you see some of the knick knacks in Dublin this term in fitting) but these girls were all actually amazingly beautiful.

You see I have a dilemma right now – I really want another tattoo… and not just some little faint symbol that goes unnoticed but a piece of art!

The top three pics below are the ones I want the most, (rabbit in the second one not the sleeve!)…

The only thing holding me back from getting one on my arm is future employment!

bucky done gun

13 Jul

Head scarves are my new favourite thing, well that and hair accessories in general!

I think  it’s because I’m kind of bored with my hair at the mo’ – it’s just brown and long ish. Bleugh. But not long enough to be strikingly long so a bit inbetweeny! I don’t know whether to let it grow longer or chop it off a la Alexa Chung.

Decisions, decisions.

The scarf I’m wearing is €4 from Penneys.

I bought a really nice bird design square scarf from ASOS the other day – but now that I compare how many I can get for the same price in Penney’s I think I’ll be sticking locally! The scarf from ASOS was €12… but typical – a day after I ordered it it went down to €6 in the sale! Rage!

Ps. Like the throw?! I am a bit of an interiors fiend! This one is from Avoca, my favourite shop for non clothes items!

apartment hunting

24 Apr

So I’m currently in the process of finding a new apartment – not the easiest of things when you have to consider budget, room size, proximity to work etc. Plus there are some really crappy places on the market and then beautiful ones out of our budget.

We found our dream apartment but waiting to see if the landlord will drop the rent (fingers crossed!). It is two minutes from work, three bedrooms, three bathrooms… amazing amazing amazing.

Although I am slightly worried I’ll get a new job out in Donnybrook or Ballsbridge which will rule out walking to work and cost me €100 extra a month on bus fare. The pain of working freelance

I’m already imagining how I will do up my room! I need a theme. Thinking maybe movies. When we viewed the apartment they had loads of movie posters framed, like Pulp Fiction etc… it looked fab! So maybe that’s what I’ll do!

Does anyone have any suggestions?!

I normally do up my room from the kids section in Dunnes but I am clearly not five anymore so don’t think I’ll go down that route this time…

How amazing is the last photo?!?!

Wow.

i want

23 Jan

… a Judith Leiber clutch.

This Ganesh clutch is $5585 from Net-A-Porter

Judith Leiber is my favourite designer of unusual clutch bags. Some describe them as ‘novelties’, a term that doesn’t seem to fit these exquisite (and expensive!) bags. To me ‘novelty’ sounds like something you spent €5 0n in Penneys… not something that is the price of a small car!

Leiber’s quirky designs are eye-catching and certainly make a statement.

And I know I mentioned this little honey bee clutch in a previous post, but it’s still my favourite…

Charlotte’s daughter, Lily, in Sex and the City had a cupcake Leiber bag for Carrie’s wedding – the one she hid Carrie’s phone in!

*swoon*

Unfortunately with their current price tags it doesn’t look like I’ll be getting one anytime soon…

Maybe some day…
