you don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies

21 Mar

I may be one of the last people… but I finally saw the Social Network.

Have I been living under a rock?! I hear you ask.

Yes, it would appear so. It was one of those things – I kept meaning to see it in the cinema but since I start work a 6am I generally rule out midweek rendezvous to a large extent. Billy no mates. Plus it is most likely that if I sit in a dark, cosy cinema anytime afer 8pm on a ‘school night’ I will fall asleep.

Never thought about all that went into the phenomenon that is Facebook until I watched the movie.

Wish I could think up something like that!

The main thing that struck me was the fact that Mark Zuckerberg lost his only true friend in the process of creating FB…. a reality that is probably eased by the fact he is now a billionaire!

Still though…

Didn’t realise Justin Timberlake was in the movie either – so spent ages squinting at his character on screen going ‘Is that JT…?’ ‘No, no. Can’t be… his eyes are too squiggy’… but after some IMDB-ing on the ol’ iPhone I quickly found out it was him…

Apologies, I clearly must come out from under that rock more!

this is gonna be the best summer ever…

19 Apr

…because I said so!

Well it will be hard to beat summer ’08 when I went on a J1 to San Fran… but I have high hopes for this year!

Why you ask!?! Well…

  • New Apartyment with the lovely girlies from 4fm… city centre – Dublin city is our back garden. Boom!

  • Summer holiday with the girls from school… to Greece possibly! I’ve never actually been on a proper girly sun holiday… and never got to go away last year because I was snowed under with work (no holiday time on internships!) so cannot wait for a week of sun and cocktails :)

  • Possibly New York for a week or two in July…

  • Sex & the City 2!

  • And just general summer-ness: sun, nights out, weekends away, beer gardens, BBQs…

I’m just hoping my overly enthusiastic attitude for summer will make the sun shine!!!

I love this girl!

So excited to see Remember Me – her new movie with RPatz!

*swoon*

Most people will recognise Emilie from Lost… but I never knew she was in Roswell before that with Katherine Heigl!

The final series of Lost is here (at last I thought it would never end!) and I’m delight to see the return of Claire Littleton played by Emilie De Ravin.

Although Claire has gone a little loopy from living on her own for three years…

I love Lost but I’m glad it’s the last series – can’t wait to find out what the hell is actually going on. Tho’ if it’s all someone dreaming or something ridic like that I won’t be impressed!

Anyways… Here’s the Trailer for Remember Me!

hello, snotface. yuck what happened to you? you’re all older, you’re even uglier! look, i’m sorry but i’m going to have to be sick all over you, immediately. lie down.

Just finished watching my favourite movie in the world – Drop Dead Fred!

I haven’t seen it in years – forgot how much I love it.

I used to watch it on repeat (which I do with everything I love – overkill much?!) when I was little.

I have it on tape at home but must buy it on DVD now!

Fred is played by British comedian Rik Mayall who is one of my favourite funny men.

Now maybe I’m a bit behind (almost a year it would seem!) but I never knew that *drum roll please* Universal are planning to remake Drop Dead Fred for 2011!

But that’s not the best part.

Guess who’s playing Fred?!

…….

This especially excites me as I want to marry this guy!

RUSSEL BRAND!!!

I think Russell is a great choice for the role. Fred is quirky and eccentric, not too different from Russell in real life.

I can’t wait to see this movie!

Russell ‘tweeted’ to followers that rumours of the remake were true… I follow him on Twitter and yet was oblivious to all this. It was announced last April!

How am I only finding out now?

And I call myself a journalist. FAIL.

Next I’ll be hearing something crazy like Russell and Katy Perry got engaged! Piff.

Oh wait…

Fox-tastic

Roald Dahl was such an amazing writer – I read all his books when I was younger.

I was always a little bit of a bookworm and Dahl’s books were the ones I always read in primary school. His writing has the ability to totally capture the attention of children (and adults!) and take you away to a different world. So… this is why I am verrrry verrrrry excited about what I am about to say…. the Fantastic Mr. Fox will be in cinemas soon!!!

This is how I remember it!... makes me want to read it again!

This is how I remember it!... makes me want to read it again!

I think it was the first Dahl book I got and at the time I was probably to young to even read it properly (I think my dad read it to me – I was maybe 5/6).  It was about Mr. Fox (obviously!) a cunning clever fox who steals from three mean farmers to make his money… the farmers get sick of this and try to come up with a plan to catch Mr. Fox… but he isn’t called ‘fantastic’ for nothing!

Anyway after that book (when I figured how to read properly) I was hooked on all things by Roald Dahl. I read everything from The BFG to The Witches. To this day I would consider Dahl to be one of my favourite authors!

So back to the movie – Fantastic Mr. Fox…

Fantastic_mr_fox

It stars George Clooney as the voice of Mr. Fox, Meryl Streep as his wife and also features the voices of Bill Murray and Owen Wilson. I can’t wait to go see it…

Why So Gray?

17 Sep

Just saw Dorian Gray in the cinema. Good movie, tho I have to say I watched a large proportion of it hiding behind my plastic+surgerycardigan… It was scary at times. Also a little gorey (as in bloody, not the place in Wexford!)…

Basically the movie is about a young guy, Dorian, who is obsessed with his appearance and youth. It got me thinking about society’s preoccupation with looking young. I mean seriously the whole world seems terrified of ageing. It seems to be that people associate youth with fun and a carefree existence – once your youth is gone so goes any sort of excitement. Look at how many people opt for Botox or plastic surgery to hold on to their youthful skin.

Dorian Gray Syndrome (DGS) denotes a cultural and societal phenomenon characterized by an excessive preoccupation with the individual’s own appearance(dysmorphophobia) accompanied by difficulties coping with the aging process and with the requirements of maturation.. (Science Daily)

The funny thing is that even at my age (21 … well 22 next week *sssh*) people are already commenting on the fact that1008-friends-laughing_at I’m ‘not’ young anymore. Eh, What?! I’m pretty sure I am! I get kind of annoyed when my friends say we’re ‘too old’ for a certain pub/club etc… claiming it’s full of 18-year-old. I don’t think 3 years is a generation gap nor is it OAP territory.

I just think the whole world has gone crazy with this youth culture. Get over it I say. Have fun. Do whatever you feel like doing and don’t restrict yourself because of age, you’ll look back in a few years and regret the things you don’t do (and also probably kick yourself for feeling old at 21).

At the same time I totally get why people want to look young, to a degree anyway. I mean I definitely am waaaay more conscious of protecting my skin (suncream!) and cleansing, toning etc (rose water is amazing and cheap!) and moisturiser (vitamin E cream = young skin!)… but it’s more about not looking like a wrinkled-up-leather-prune! We’ve all seen those old ladies who spent tooooo much time in the sun when they were young… not a good look. While a tan looks and makes you feel great you don’t want to pay for it years later with crap skin. I never really used to think about this, any glimpse of sun and I’d be straight outside – no cream – just happy for a quick tan. Not so much any more! And it’s not because I feel old (I don’t) it’s because I don’t want to look in the mirror in ten years time and have wrinkles and damaged skin – and for what? – a tan that lasted a week when I was 20… No thanks! I’ll stick to my Flash Bronzer from now on…

Forever young?

Tho I would be 21 forever I could…

I can’t wait to see this movie!

Alexis Bledel (Rory from the Gilmore girls) plays  Ryden Malby, who’s just graduated from college and has to move home and look for a job. I can relate!
