weirdo with five colours in her hair

26 May

Summer has arrived in London!

This past week has been scorching hot and I have spent many a day in the park. It was also a good excuse to buy some bright summer clothes.

I also have some exciting news – I have a NEW JOB! I start on Monday… excited slash nervous. I will now be working in social media, which I am delighted about. I am looking forward to finishing my first day as have the jitters already! I was in my last job over here for just over a year and was all cosy and settled plus I loved the people I worked with – but it wasn’t the career I wanted. Recruitment was good for the short term but not for me! At least I made some wonderful friends out of it and it helped make my first year in London so wonderful.

As a hurrah to summer I have had ice-cream for breakfast everyday this week.

what big shades you have… all the better to see you with my dear

26 Mar

London has been having some great weather lately!

I took last Friday off and ventured to Regents Park for a picnic… met a little dog friend too!

It was a lovely day of drinking rosé in the sun.

Back to work this week, and it’s tough being in a basement office when the sun is blasting down outside.

Days are brighter now so some beer garden evenings shall be had to compensate for the long days cooped up!

I bought this anchor necklace (£10) from Topshop recently.

I love it!

It has a nice long chain too which I am always a fan of!

(worn with my Topshop tiger jumper!)

I have decided to cut back on the amount of clothes I have over here – do I really need two faux fur jackets as summer approaches? Eh, NO.

After moving house this weekend it became apparent that I brought too much clothes over from home!

When I originally was packing for London I really didn’t know what the style was over here in terms of nights out or work so I packed a heap of dressy going out dresses/skirts/tops… when in fact, more often than not I go out after work in daytime-y clothes (day to night with a splash of red lippy) or if a Saturday dressy-casual. And I NEVER wear heels. Well, once in a blue moon I do if it is a particularly special night out or we go to a dressier club. This came as a big surprise from Dublin where I always wore heels, proper going out dresses and sparkly everything – more because if I didn’t I felt like a lump next to everyone else in their six inch heels and faux lashes! Most places that I go to in London are much more relaxed and low key – a nice change I must say – as there is no better feeling than wearing shoes that don’t hurt!

Here is a recent Friday night outfit – I went from work to the pub, so just took a scarf I had tied around my bag and put it in my hair just to look a bit different from the office!

glitter and gold

15 Feb

I bought this amazing gold bow-tie in Circus, Powerscourt in Dublin last year. There was a closing down sale on at the time and I took one look at this little bow, all sparkly and gold, and knew I had to have it. I did struggle at the time to figure out when I could wear in.

I once made the mistake of wearing it with a black playsuit and ended up looking like a waiter/penguin.

Today I fancied some gold in my life so paired it with my new favourite jumper from Topshop which is littered around this blog in other posts.

Saw the jumper in Topshop and loved it!… they didn’t have my size so went home and bought it on eBay – (wasn’t on Topshop’s site either!)

diy jumpers

15 Jan

I was browsing Urban Outfitters site the other day and came across this absolute beaut (below) by Bitching & Junkfood … Pimped out Aran jumper! It was reduced from £150 to £70… still quite pricey I thought… I put it in my basket… thought some more…  *stop thinking so much!* and well… too much thinking…  ’you snooze you lose’ as they say! It sold out.

And now I wish I bought it!

But it got me thinking – I might go to Primark and get a plain jumper, getting out the needle and thread and trying funk it out myself.  Now it may not turn out *ahem* exactly like the one below… but we shall see!

New hobby for the new year!

mary katrantzou for topshop

2 Nov

Topshop have Mary Katrantzou designing a 14 piece collection for them!

Think back to the hysteria surronding the one that Christopher Kane did a few years ago and you probably have a rough idea of how Katrantzou’s collection will go down.

It’s great news for fans of Katrantzou’s aesthetics who don’t have the moolah to obtain one of her uber expensive designs. Ahem – I am looking at the 18 clients who spent about £8,800 each to snag one of Katrantzou’s Jewel Tree dresses… inspired by Faberge eggs! Should have gone to Specsavers Topshop.

Oh did I mention – Nails?!

For a limited time only in Topshop’s Oxford Circus store, Katrantzou’s designs will be available as seven exclusive nail designs in conjunction with WAH nail salon.

1950′s Pat Hartly White Organza Print Dress from The Goddess Room

I love this dress.

And if I had a spare €500 that I didn’t know what to do with I would definitely drop it on this vintage dress!

Unfortunately A) I can’t justify spending €500 on a dress right now and B) I have no place to wear it to… but oh I want it!!!

Also I wish The Goddess Room was in Dublin! Grr – I really won’t be making it down to Greystones in Wicklow anytime soon… But perhaps it’s a good thing, I have a feeling if I saw this dress in a shop in Dublin I wouldn’t be able to leave it…
