weirdo with five colours in her hair

26 May

Summer has arrived in London!

This past week has been scorching hot and I have spent many a day in the park. It was also a good excuse to buy some bright summer clothes.

I also have some exciting news – I have a NEW JOB! I start on Monday… excited slash nervous. I will now be working in social media, which I am delighted about. I am looking forward to finishing my first day as have the jitters already! I was in my last job over here for just over a year and was all cosy and settled plus I loved the people I worked with – but it wasn’t the career I wanted. Recruitment was good for the short term but not for me! At least I made some wonderful friends out of it and it helped make my first year in London so wonderful.

As a hurrah to summer I have had ice-cream for breakfast everyday this week.

home to the land of blaas and tayto

30 Apr

If you know what the above title means then you are probably from Ireland.

Blaas are amazing local baps/rolls from Waterford and Tayto are fantastic (albeit smelly!) Irish crisps… Mmm!

I am now fully back in London and back to blogging land – hurrah!

First post – nothing too strenuous, just an outfit post from an Easter night out back home.

what big shades you have… all the better to see you with my dear

26 Mar

London has been having some great weather lately!

I took last Friday off and ventured to Regents Park for a picnic… met a little dog friend too!

It was a lovely day of drinking rosé in the sun.

Back to work this week, and it’s tough being in a basement office when the sun is blasting down outside.

Days are brighter now so some beer garden evenings shall be had to compensate for the long days cooped up!

feeling peachy

8 Mar

I have decided to cut back on the amount of clothes I have over here – do I really need two faux fur jackets as summer approaches? Eh, NO.

After moving house this weekend it became apparent that I brought too much clothes over from home!

When I originally was packing for London I really didn’t know what the style was over here in terms of nights out or work so I packed a heap of dressy going out dresses/skirts/tops… when in fact, more often than not I go out after work in daytime-y clothes (day to night with a splash of red lippy) or if a Saturday dressy-casual. And I NEVER wear heels. Well, once in a blue moon I do if it is a particularly special night out or we go to a dressier club. This came as a big surprise from Dublin where I always wore heels, proper going out dresses and sparkly everything – more because if I didn’t I felt like a lump next to everyone else in their six inch heels and faux lashes! Most places that I go to in London are much more relaxed and low key – a nice change I must say – as there is no better feeling than wearing shoes that don’t hurt!

Here is a recent Friday night outfit – I went from work to the pub, so just took a scarf I had tied around my bag and put it in my hair just to look a bit different from the office!

glitter and gold

15 Feb

I bought this amazing gold bow-tie in Circus, Powerscourt in Dublin last year. There was a closing down sale on at the time and I took one look at this little bow, all sparkly and gold, and knew I had to have it. I did struggle at the time to figure out when I could wear in.

I once made the mistake of wearing it with a black playsuit and ended up looking like a waiter/penguin.

Today I fancied some gold in my life so paired it with my new favourite jumper from Topshop which is littered around this blog in other posts.

buns, bows and annie mac

12 Feb

Last night I went to see Annie Mac at Koko – an amazing night. I now need to find Annie and convince her to be my NBF.

It was my first time in Koko and I absolutely loved it – a beautiful venue, laid out over several floors. While on the dance floor I decided that I could happily stay there forever and ever. And ever.

The music was unbelievable.

It was one of the coldest nights I’ve experienced so far in London but, despite this, several girls had teeny shorts and bare legs. If that had been me I would be a frozen statue in Camden now – it would take several hairdryers to defrost me! Instead I opted for black tights (still never warm enough!), a long sleeved dress (I sound like a granny) and some comfortable brogues (officially in granny territory now), my massive black jacket from Asos and some cat-shaped earmuffs.

I based my outfit around a scarf that I decided to wear as a hairband.

I had some panicked minutes, where I was already late to meet my friends, standing in my room with my hairband on and no clue what to wear! I remembered packing a long black, shoulder padded dress in my suitcase after Christmas. I bought it ages ago but only ever wore it once as it is long enough on me so only looks good with black tights – to avoid midget leg syndrome.

We started off in the Earl of Camden – great pub with comfy sofas and fantastic food (from what I could see… and smell!), although I just had a bag of crisps ’cause I’m classy like that.

Dress: Topshop

Scarf (worn as hairband): River Island

Watch: Swatch

Necklace: Topshop

Earrings: Tiffany

Battered bag: Fendi (it’s been through the mill at this stage!)

I used Topshop’s felt-tip lip pen in Berry on my lips – it literally lasts the whole night and doesn’t come off when you’re drinking. I just wore a clear gloss over it as I find lip stains can be quite drying on their own.

I now feel I want to wear hairband scarves everyday. Forever!

polar bear spirithood

1 Feb

It was ‘effing freezing today in London. So cold that I wore TWO pairs of tights… hmm, perhaps I should look into these things called jeans.

On the plus side, I got to wear my NEW SpiritHood! Hurrah.

Last year I bought a leopard one and recently decided to branch out and get a polar bear hood too. I absolutely love the SpiritHood website and their styling.

The hoods themselves are great too, I use the little mitten part to store my Oyster card and iPhone! I have to say the white hood will be hard to keep clean, I already have gotten makeup underneath the hood… oops.

Also please forgive my ‘rabbit in headlight’ eyes below!

… I managed to crack a smile once I defrosted and had some Earl Grey tea!

My jacket basically doubles up as a blanket! I got it from River Island last year… so cosy.

On another note – I tried Marmite for the first time EVER today… and LOVED it.

james dean

31 Jan

Remember that song by Daniel Bedingfield about James Dean?

Hmm, No? Ah, well.

That’s him there on my tshirt. James Dean that is, not Daniel Bedingfield.

I also wore these so-called ‘wet look’ leggings for the first time… oh my god, they were like wearing ice! In the end I had to wear a pair of tights and two pairs of socks underneath!

Tshirt: D&G

Necklace: Topshop

Cardigan: New Look

Leggings: ICELAND… (Well, Topshop really…brrr)

home for christmas

24 Dec

I am back in Ireland for the first time in four months!

I flew home on Wednesday and after an epic drive home from Dublin (including a puncture and taking the wrong slip road on the motorway twice!) I made it back to Waterford in one piece. It’s the first time in years that I have been off on Christmas Eve. I have to say that I do miss the buzz of working in radio at this time of year… last year in Today FM I had to put little kids calls through to Santa Claus which was very cute indeed! The year before that we had a massive big Christmas breakfast in 4fm with all those is the studio that day. This year I got to be on the other side of things and just listen to the shows… all the time thinking how much I wanted to be working!

But on the plus side the lack of snow this year is magical to say the least! I had the fear back in October that I might end up snowed in and stuck in London with nobody but the garden squirrel for company.

I only packed hand luggage for the flight which consisted of two playsuits and a dress – clearly not a very good packer! I went out in Waterford last night (the names of all the pubs have changed!) wearing what I considered to be quite festive outfit… holly roses are the flower of Christmas after all!…

nice is… nice

2 Oct

I was in Nice in France last week for five lovely days of sunshine… luckily the minute I got back to London I was greeted by a heat wave. Hurrah!

Temperatures in London this weekend were the highest on record for October!

It feels like the middle of summer right now – we were even let off work early every day last week to enjoy the good weather. Jammy!

While in Nice we managed to visit one of the few vegan/vegetarian restaruants there – Le Speakeasy

I love holidays, but more often than not the choice of vegetarian food can be limited to risotto and pasta… which is ok once or twice but not the sort of food you want to eat every day – way too heavy and rich! And little salads just aren’t filling enough when you’ve been wandering about and swimming all day.

Le Speakeasy is a very small restaurant  – it really feels like dining in somebody’s kitchen.

So if you’re looking for a big swanky restaurant it probably isn’t for you. It is run by Jan a Californian native who has lived in France for years. All the food is fresh and such a nice change from rich French food.

We were the first to arrive in the restaurant and chose a nice little table beside a massive colourful wall. The menu itself was pretty small but decent – for started there was carrot juice, pate or miso soup – I went for the carrot juice – which was made fresh and was delish.

There was two choice of mains, a sweet potato pie or a choice of quinoa and almond sauce. I went for the pie option which came with a massive salad of rocket and beetroot and as much olives as you can handle! For desert there was a few choices including rice cream, banana and date ice cream and apple pie.

For drinks there was fresh juices, organic beer, red wine… but no white! It didn’t bother me particularly as I hate wine *shock shock* but I can see how that may not go down with everyone.

And here’s some other pics from Nice below…

No sand on the beaches tho’ – stoney! Which is grand really as I don’t like sand – I always get in my eyes and all over my clothes… the stones did make it difficult to walk tho’!
