stressed, depressed… but well dressed!

4 Jan

Christmas is over, New Year’s Eve is a distant memory and I am back in London… back to work. No more sleeping until lunchtime and eating all around me.

Back to reality with a bang.

I had a lovely 12 days at home in Ireland and am finding it hard to adjust to normal life. Work have nicely let us start at the later time of 9.30am (instead of 8.45am) and finish at 5.30pm (instead of 6pm). Even so, the wet mornings and torrential wind make it hard to leave my apartment and trek to the office.

In my blogpost from the same time last year I decided to take up piano lessons (which I did) as I finished the brekkie show at 2pm ish so wanted something to do in the afternoon (besides sleep!)… I had also only just got an iPhone – now I don’t know how I did without one for so long. Quite a lot has changed since that blogpost. I no longer work in Today FM (sob!) or live in Dublin and am now in London (yay!).

Where will I be this time next year?

…and so the lion fell in love with the lamb [spirit hoods]

7 Nov

…Well leopard if we’re getting into the finer details!

My Spirit Hood arrived! Huzzah! I blogged a while ago about ordering  my leopard spirit hood – of course not thinking things thru’ I got it delivered to my Waterford home instead of Dublin so ending up sans hood for a few weeks!

Got it sent up last Thursday and have been living in it ever since!

It is without a doubt my favourite thing right not! So cosy – and it has little glovey paws too! EEP.

Tho’ I do get the odd person miaowing at me in the streets…

Outfit deets:

Took these back in summer when it was hot and sunny – can’t really remember what that feels like anymore!

Always at this time of year I get the urge to panic book a winter sun holiday! The thoughts of not feeling the sun on my skin for another year makes me jittery!

tights and boots

Soon the days of bare-legged summer loveliness will be over…

I do love tights… but summer don’t go! I’ll miss you…

what i wore… 5am… *shudder*

25 Jan
Top from A-Wear, wore with black tights and orange All Saints cardie

Working the brekkie shift in Today FM this week… which explains why it’s lunchtime and I’m in bed.

I love clothes and I enjoy nothing more than putting an outfit together. But 5am?! I.Can’t.Even.See.Straight.

Honestly my vision is fuzzy for the first ten minutes when I wake up and my teeth hurt.

Safe to say I am not a big fan of early mornings but I love working (explains why I am in a ridiculously good mood of a Monday) so I just have to roll with it. I get used to the super early starts after a day or so and it’s nice to finish work and still have the day free! When the show ends at 9am all I want to eat is lunch or dinner(!) not breakfast food – believe me it’s hard to find a place that serves veggie sushi or baked potatoes before 12pm!

So my alarm goes off at 5am… I have an idea what I want to wear (or I have it planned from the night before if I’m organised!) but I’m cold! I don’t want to wear tights! I don’t want to wear a t-shirt or cute dress! I want a hoodie and fluffy boots! Now, bear in mind I am not a hoodie fan – except if I am staying in watching TV… but early mornings make me forget all my lovely clothes. Mainly because it’s dark and I’m cold.

But hey it’s nearly* summer so soon dark and cold mornings won’t be an issue… oh wait… It’s Ireland.

*by nearly I mean absolutely ages away… but I try to convince myself that summer is just around the corner.

The end of the world

6 Jan

What is going on with the weather lately?!

Dublin bus is out of action today due to snow. Bus drivers have refused to work until roads are gritted… so a lot of stranded people I’d imagine.

Traffic is bumper to bumper. Taxis are non-existent.

I had to walk home from work. In the cold, snow, slush, ice, crap. Tho’ luckily I live within walking distance (40 mins or so) can’t imagine how other people will manage if they live outside the city centre.

Boo.

Sure even the Coronation Street team in the UK got a snow day off work yesterday as they couldn’t film due to snow!

I can’t feel my toes

3 Jan

I am so cold!

At least my laptop is offering me some sort of warmth as it overheats on my lap – that can’t be good for it. I haven’t been in my Dublin apartment for almost two weeks… so that’s two weeks it went without any heat.. and it is FREEZING now. I’m wearing layers and layers, scarves (yes plural!), furry socks and even have a hot water bottle on my feet… and I’m still cold.

I made the trek from Waterford to Dublin today – it got more and more icy the closer we got to the capital. Snowy fields, mountains… how lovely. Well no, not really. Snow sucks. It’s crap. It turns to slush. Makes me slip. And it’s TOO cold.

Snow is nice in certain circumstances… if you’re on a ski trip, yes that’s about it really.

I think it would be so much better if it only snowed in our back gardens – that way we’d have all the snowman fun and get to look at the ‘pretty’ snow without having to skid in our cars, slip on footpaths and make general fools of ourselves as we undoubtedly fall on our asses on the way to work.

Now if someone wants to buy me some snow and deck out my garden (like the amazing dude below) then that would be ok. Snow in instances like that would be acceptable.

In There Like… Knitwear

4 Oct

My favourite thing about winter is wearing cosy knits! There’s nothing better than being all wrapped up as the wind does everything but lift you right off the footpath and freezes all those that wear t-shirts in November (we all know them – artsy type boys who wear t-shirts no matter the weather: rain, snow, monsoon… How do they not get pneumonia?!)

So today I ordered some lovely knitwear from ASOS

… and a winter outfit wouldn’t be complete without a scarf…

I shall be wearing these all winter accessorised with  hot chocolate from Butlers!

Got some very nice things in town today. Have to say River Island has some gorgeous cardies/hats/shoes at the mo. Was never that big a fan of RI but lately I have to say I love it!

CardieRI

teddyhatI adore this teddy hat! It is so cute on. I have a slight hat obsession so this will go down nicely as a winter staple.

Also these beuts arrived from ASOS this morning. Good shopping day!

Saints and Sinners…

8 Sep

Lately I’ve become a tad obsessed with All Saints – the fashion brand that is not the band.

They stock an array of floaty, flattering styles. Seriously look at THIS dress. The Ditsy Ezra dress is made using special pattern cutting techniques and draping of fabric that results in its floaty shape – creating a verrrrry flattering silhouette.

I got a similar one a few weeks back in BT2 in Dublin. It’s more along the lines of THIS though.

Now it’s just being kind of ‘resting’ in my wardrobe… tags still on etc. I blame the weather, it’s just not that enticing to wear dresses in the rain! So I decided that something had to be done, after all it is a *new* dress, and make it a bit more suitable for (dare I say) winter.

Who are we kidding – our non-existant summer is finito!

So the other day I decided to try it on with my new boots…

Louboutins

… paired with this in sandy/beige with a white t-shirt underneath…

Kinda like this... but in beige-y

I think the appeal of the dress is in how it hangs – it goes out from the waist and is graduated in length. Great for petite people (like me!) as you don’t feel as swamped by a full-on long dress.
